Nature Camp
Your kids will get up close and hands on with nature in this 5 week camp whether its knee deep in a tidal pool looking for crabs or building a shelter in the woods.
When: 7/16-8/14 (5 Weeks)
Grades 1-3 Thursdays 9:00-noon
Grades 4-6 Fridays 9:00-noon
Where: Parson's Field next to Consolidated School. There will be some days that drop off is at another location in town. This will be communicated the week before.
Cost: $119- Entire Session, Half Day
*15 max in each age group
Specialty Camp Covid Protocols
Overview: In this uncertain time, we can look forward to KPort Park & Rec providing a great summer for local children with a focus on specialty camps. Please review this document to determine whether programming following these protocols is a good fit for your family.
Who: In an effort to minimize the chance of exposure to Covid-19 from outside sources, we will only be accepting children who have been within the State of Maine for at least 14 days and can satisfactorily answer the screening questions. If your child comes from a high-risk household, please consider not registering, or withdrawing from the program.
Where: Consolidated School and Parsons Field in Kennebunkport. Under the CDC’s recommendation, we will spend as much time outdoors as possible. In the event of inclement weather, we will post a cancellation notice by 8:00am on our website as well as send an email blast out to participants.
Personal Belongings: All personal items must be labeled with owner’s name.
Staffing: Your child will only be exposed to our three full-time staff members for the entire length of the program.
Check-in/Out: Drop off will be between 8:45am and 9:00am at the rec building. At the time of drop off please stay in the car with your child while we check the camper’s temperature and ask several screening questions. If he/she is displaying signs of a fever you will be asked to keep your child home until a period of 72 hours after which symptoms have ceased, per CDC guidelines. Children will only be permitted to return with a doctor’s note.
Pick up will be between 11:45am and 12:00pm at the same location. Please adhere to these times to the best of your ability and remain in your car while picking up your child.
Weather: Since we are unable to bring kids inside, if it is raining we will have to cancel Nature Camp that day.
Sanitation: Children will be asked to wash/sanitize their hands upon drop off at camp. They will also be asked to do the same before and after snack, when sneezing or coughing, or when coming in physical contact with another camper or staff person. Any shared items (paint brush for example) will be sanitized before next use by another child.
Masks: Please pack a CLEAN mask for your child before each drop-off. They will be asked to wear it when physical distancing is not possible. When participating at camp, we will try to keep those interactions to a minimum, and encourage 6ft+ distancing. Please talk to your child at home explaining the importance of using a mask and remaining physically distant.
Activities: Our rec staff has been researching different activities we can organize while practicing physical distancing. Any activity that requires close contact will be strictly prohibited.
Illness: Children and staff who show ANY signs of sickness are asked to stay home for the CDC recommended time of 72 hours after symptoms cease. Please take this seriously and practice caution, which is a necessity if we expect specialty camps to run. Campers should be evaluated by a medical provider, and prior to returning, obtain a physician’s note saying they are safe to return to camp.
Shutting Down: If a case of Covid-19 is confirmed in our camp’s space, we may have to take the CDC’s recommended time to deep clean and sanitize. Any person exposed to a person who tested positive for Covid-19 will need to quarantine for 14 days. Please note, that we also reserve the right to end camp prematurely if we feel at any point it is unsafe to continue.
