Puffin Watch Cruise
We are headed up to New Harbor, Maine for an evening cruise to watch the Atlantic Puffins and other sea birds as they nest on Eastern Egg Rock. Atlantic Puffins are considered rare in Maine and are listed on the Threatened Species list. This is why the National Audubon Society has re-established Eastern Egg Rock as a Puffin Colony, a place where you can see about 150 nesting pairs along with a thousand pairs of Terns and other unusual sea birds.
Along the way, we will stretch our legs at Treats in Wiscasset, Maine-a favorite spot for coffee and other delicious baked treats.
Before we load the boat, we will fuel up with a late lunch at The Harbor Room in New Harbor, casual dining with an elegant atmosphere. You can check out their menu here:
Our 1 and 1/2 hour cruise with Hardy Boat Cruises will begin at 5:30pm and include a National Audubon Project Puffin Naturalist to narrate, help with bird identification, and answer any questions throughout the trip. Eastern Egg Rock is a short 5 mile boat ride where we will catch a sighting of Franklin Island Lighthouse, Monhegan Island, the islands of Muscongus Bay, and a beautiful view of the Camden Hills. On the boat you will have the option of sitting on the upper deck with a 360degree unobstructed view or on the lower deck if you prefer remaining out of the sun. There are healthy snacks, coffee, and home baked goodies available on board.
When: July 25th, 2019. Arrive at the Rec building at 12:30pm. We will return to the Rec building at approximately 9pm.
How much: $46/pp. Cost includes transportation and cruise ticket. Meals are at your own expense.
What to bring: Dress in layers, binoculars, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera, etc.
